On March 29, 2023, the Legion of Mary welcomed two new active members: Linda Scruggs and Nancy Johnson, into Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces Praesidium. Fr. Johnson, the Praesidium’s Spiritual Director, announced their pending enrollment at Mass earlier that day. The Legion of Mary was founded in Dublin Ireland in 1921 by Servant of God, Frank Duff. It is the largest international lay apostolate of Catholic men and women within the church. The aim/object of the Legon of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the church’s work.
Active members are those who after completing at least a three month probationary period, are ready to make the Legionary Promise. The Promise is addressed to the Holy Spirit. Deliberate attention is given to him, and devotion to the Blessed Mother with whom he works in inseparable union.
The probationary period allows the candidate to discern if they can fulfill the legionary duty, which in part consists of weekly meetings and performance of legionary work. Most of the work we perform is visitation to shut-ins in their homes or in health care facilities. At one facility we lead a weekly rosary and divine mercy chaplet. We are available to lead the holy rosary at wake services.
The Legion of Mary meets on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm in the UR. Anyone is welcome to join us for a meeting. If you have questions or want more information, please contact Lucy Mikula: [email protected] or 317-379-1350.
